Frequently Asked Questions
Here are some of our frequently asked questions about our school and classes.
The school is on a cycle enrollment basis. Students may begin classes on the second Tuesday of every month following the completion of admission requirements.
Night classes are currently not available but will be coming soon. Sign up for our newsletter to stay updated when they are availible.
Night classes will begin on the second Tuesday of every other month.
Each program has a different start age requirement. You will need to apply to become a student, this can be done online through our website. You will need a valid photo id and proof of education.
Full-time day classes take place from 9:00am – 4:00pm Monday through Friday.
When Full-time night schedule classes are availible, they will take place from 3:00pm – 9:00pm on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.
Less than full-time schedules are available for both day and night classes. We work towards building a schedule fitted to individual needs within reason- allowing students to work at their own pace
Students paying tuition payments are required to pay every month on the 1st of the month. There is a 10-day grace period for failed payments after the 1st.
Completion of the course will occur once the student has completed the required number of clock hours/credit unit hours, earned the required credits, and successfully passed all written and practical exams with at least a 70% or better.
Student instructors must successfully pass all written and practical exams with at least an 80% or better.
Delinquent or incomplete graduates will be allowed sixty (60) days to complete their remaining obligations. Failure to do so will result in the student’s enrollment being terminated- therefore changing his/her status from “Graduated” to “Expelled.”
Application for examination must be made within ninety (90) days of the student’s last date of attendance. Failure to do so could result in the student’s hours being viewed as invalid. Upon application for examination, students will receive a diploma. The examination application, along with a record of completion, will be submitted to the Alabama Board of Cosmetology and Barbering. Once the application has been processed by the Alabama Board of Cosmetology and Barbering, the student
will receive a temporary permit along with an instruction packet to complete the examination process.
Once a student has completed 70% of the required hours (1050 clock hours or 840 credit unit hours), they are eligible to apply for a student trainee permit. Students are only allowed to work when school is not in session. Students desiring to take advantage of this opportunity MUST maintain an attendance and overall grade average of 95% in order for the Charles Academy of Beauty Culture to certify this permit.
The school does NOT make any guarantee that the student will obtain employment after graduation. However, we offer assistance to the students to a reasonable extent in obtaining employment within their chosen profession. Guests are invited to come and speak with students about employment opportunities from time to time. Efforts are also made to maintain a strong network with other industry professionals to strengthen our employment assistance resources.
Any student desiring to withdraw from Charles Academy must submit a request in writing. Students who withdraw or are terminated prior to course completion will be
charged a $150 termination fee. Hours, exams, and credits are transferrable to other schools provided that they are no more than twelve (12) months old. Some states may require certified hours be sent to them directly from the Alabama Board of Cosmetology and Barbering. Academic transcripts are available upon written request as long as the former student has fulfilled all of their financial and academic obligations to Charles Academy of Beauty Culture.
Terminated or withdrawn students in good standing with the school may be eligible for re-enrollment within six (6) months. After the period of eligibility has passed, students can re-enroll after paying a re-enrollment fee as long as the time of re-enrollment is within twelve (12) months of their last physical day of attendance.
Students NOT in good standing with the school at the time of their termination or withdrawal are not eligible for re-enrollment. Students can file a written appeal for re-enrollment consideration.
Students desiring to transfer to Charles Academy of Beauty Culture will be considered based on hours, exams, and credits transferred from the previous school. If students from another state establish residency in Alabama, he/she may transfer all certified hours from the state board or regulatory agency of their previous state of residence if they are no more than twelve (12) months old. Fees for students transferring to Charles Academy of Beauty Culture is pro-rated based upon the criteria required to complete their training.
